ST. CROIX — Police on Monday arrested a 64-year-old man who allegedly unlawfully had sexual contact with student, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced today.
Asked whether the victim was a minor, female or male, Mr. Dratte said the V.I.P.D. was not certain.
The suspect, 64-year-old James Lealand Johnston Jr., above, was arrested pursuant to an arrest warrant issued by a magistrate judge of the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands for first-degree unlawful sexual contact. The victim reported that the incident took place on March 25, 2017.
The V.I.P.D. release says Mr. Johnston had unlawful sexual contact with one of his students while teaching the student how to play guitar.
Unable to make bail of $100,000, he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
