News / Sports / Videos / Virgin Islands / March 20, 2017

ST. CROIX — On Sunday, remote controlled boat racers from the U.S. mainland, Puerto Rico, St. John and St. Croix participated in the first leg of the fourth annual RC Caribbean Championship. Second and third legs are expected to be played in Puerto this June and St. John in August, respectively, keeping with traditional schedules. From there, the teams take a break and resume the following March, which commences with a trophy presentation.

Sunday’s action took place at the Bethlehem Park, located on the old sugar mill plantation just east of the National Guard Armory. The niche sport has been played here for well over 50 years, but six years ago an official team was formed and the games have been growing ever since, according to RC Club President Burton Edney, Jr.

Below, a taste of the action.
