Suicide Reported In St. Thomas

ST. THOMAS — A man was found dead by his friend in what police have described as a suicide incident, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced this afternoon.

According to Ms. Freeman, on Monday a resident of Sapphire House called the 911 emergency call center to report that he attempted several times to make contact with his friend and neighbor, but was unsuccessful.

The Sapphire resident further explained that he became concerned and traveled to his friend’s residence at Unit 304 of Sapphire House. And after repeatedly making attempts to contact his friend, he then peered into the apartment and discovered that he was hanging from the apartment’s door knob, according to police.

Upon investigators’ arrival to the scene, they discovered an unresponsive Caucasian male, who appeared to be in his early 30s, hanging from the unit’s door knob, according to Ms. Freeman.

The  V.I.P.D. is withhold the victim’s identity pending next of kin identification, according to Ms. Freeman. Preliminary investigation has ruled the incident as a suicide.
