St. Thomas Arrests And Incidents: January 21-25

VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson announced the following arrests on St. Thomas from January 21-25.

Thursday, January 21, 2016 – at 12:30 p.m., Maulique Juttori Caines, 19, of Anna’s Retreat was arrested and charged with grand larceny after he was positively identified as the individual that stole the complainant’s mobile device from his pocket. According to the report, the complainant purchased a new mobile device and the suspect’s picture showed up. Unable to make bail of $35,000, Ms. Caines was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending her advise-of-rights hearing.

Thursday, January 21, 2016 – at approximately 12:25 p.m., James Edwards Nibbs, 40, of Fortuna was arrested and charged with second degree arson. According to the report, Mr. Nibbs walked into a police station and admitted to burning a vehicle in the Frydenhoj area. A vehicle was later discovered burnt in that area and Mr. Nibbs also left a voicemail message stating that he’d burned the complainant’s vehicle. Unable to make bail of $50,000, Mr. Nibbs was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.

Saturday, January 23, 2016 – Valencia Osborne, 40, of Anna’s Retreat was arrested and charged with simple assault. Ms. Osborne was placed under arrest after she was positively identified as the person who struck her daughter about the body, causing physical injury.

Saturday, January 23, 2016 – George Sampson, 50, of Anna’s Retreat was arrested and charged with simple assault. Mr. Sampson was placed under citizen’s arrest after he assaulted a woman and threatened to strike her with a bottle to the head. Unable to make bail of $500, Mr. Sampson was remanded to  the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.

Saturday, January 23, 2016 – at 12:15am, Hakim Brooks, 35, of Contant was arrested and charged with and possession of an unlicensed firearm. Bail for Mr. Brooks was set at $25,000.00 and unable to post bail, he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.

Saturday, January 23, 2016 – Mario Emanuel, 38, of Contant was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm. Bail for Hakim Brooks was set at $25,000.00 and unable to post bail, Mr. Emanuel was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.

Saturday, January 23, 2016 – Phillip Bernier (age and residence unknown) was arrested and charged with disturbance of the peace. Mr. Bernier was involved in a disturbance at the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Hospital and disobeyed a lawful order rendered by a police officer. Unable to make bail of $500, Mr. Bernier was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.

Sunday, January 24, 2016 – at 6:45pm, officers responded to the report of a third degree burglary that occurred on the outskirts of Yacht Haven Grande. According to the report, the female victim had been walking in an easterly direction outside of YHG when a Black male approached her from behind and grabbed her backpack. As the man attempted to steal the backpack, he dragged her across the street and struck her once in the stomach. The unknown male then took the backpack and ran into the Paul M. Pearson Gardens Housing Community.

Sunday, January 24, 2016 – Eric Duran, 52, of Cruz Bay, St. John, was arrested and charged with destruction of property at 9:30 p.m., after having been identified by his Mother as the person who damaged her window with a machete. Mr. Duran was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.

And on Monday, January 25, 2016 – at roughly 11:29 a.m., Mohammad Bazar, 37, of Upper Contant was arrested and charged with third degree assault after he was identified by the victim as the individual who fired a single gunshot after a verbal altercation in the vicinity of Green House on Veteran’s Drive on January 18, 2016. Mr. Bazar was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
