ST. THOMAS — The St. Thomas Reformed Church is inviting the public to come out and experience “In Her Shoes,” a gospel drama production written and directed by local playwright Jessica C. Henderson, a press release the religious organization issued this afternoon has made known.
The fifth in a series of gospel dramas written by Henderson, In Her Shoes revisits the New Testament story of the “Woman at the Well” enacted in the light of Caribbean values and adapted to Caribbean sensibility using Caribbean language.
As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the ministry has partnered with the Family Resource Center to present the production, which explores the topic of domestic violence while seeking to raise awareness of its effects on the community.
The production will take place at the Reichhold Center for the Arts Friday October 23, Saturday October 24 and Sunday October 25 at 7:00 p.m. nightly. Admission is free, the release stated, however a “free will offering” will be collected during the event.
The St. Thomas Reformed Church, one of the oldest congregations in the Virgin Islands, according to the release, is located on the corner of Nye and Crystal Gade and adjacent to Bakery Square on St. Thomas’ Backstreet.
The drama’s production is funded in part by a grant from the Virgin Islands Humanities Council & the National Endowment for the Humanities. All proceeds will go to benefit the Family Resource Center.
