ST. THOMAS — Scotiabank this afternoon made known via press release that it’s joined the Rotary Club of St Thomas East’s annual Back to School Project, donating $500 to the cause.
Aside from providing the monetary donation, the bank’s employees also volunteered to assist with the packing and sorting of backpacks and school supplies.
Each year, the Rotary Club of St. Thomas East organizes a Back to School Project where a backpack of school supplies is donated to every first grader in the public elementary schools on St. Thomas.
Scotiabank says it’s dedicated to making a positive difference through financial support and volunteering. The presentation was held at a recent Rotary Club of St. Thomas East weekly meeting.
“The opportunity to not only support this project financially, but to also volunteer our time is truly a rewarding experience for our employees,” said Scotiabank Marketing Officer, Christine N. Lee. With Scotiabank’s donations in the past, the Rotary Club of St. Thomas East has been able to enhance what is considered a very important service project that brings joy to almost 800 students.
According to Lynn DeLany, Secretary of Rotary Club of St. Thomas East, “Our project encourages students to read and has been treasured by the parents and teachers of all the schools for the past 12 years.”
The backpacks filled with school supplies will be donated to the various public elementary schools on St. Thomas in September when all public schools reopen.
