Personnel Announces Correction And Police Officer Entrance Exams

ST. THOMAS — Division of Personnel Acting Director Milton Potter has announced territory-wide tests for the ranks of Correction Officer and Police Officer, according to a press release the division issued on Thursday.

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Candidates must also possess or be able to qualify for a driver’s license. US citizenship is also mandatory, and candidates should be no younger than 20 years and not have arrived at his/her forty- six (46) birthday. Candidates must successfully pass a civil service written examination; physical agility test; psychological exam; oral board interview; as well as a background check.

Sign-up dates are between July 27-August 7. And testing dates are September 14-18.

According to the release, all interested candidates must sign-up and submit a complete application package at the respective district’s office by Friday, August 7. Candidates who’d previously submitted applications are required to notify the Division of Personnel of any changes in mailing addresses to ensure receipt of confirmed examination notice. Preparation guide for the police officer written examination will be distributed July 27-31.

Personnel’s recruitment policy has been amended to include new criteria which will allow candidates to be waived from sitting the written examination; however, candidates are required to meet all other established criteria for qualification.

The new criteria are as follows:

  • All degrees (associate, bachelor and master level) from accredited institutions will now be accepted in addition to the degrees currently accepted which include police science, criminal justice, (certain)- social science, criminology, forensic science, accounting, public and business administration. However, all accredited non-related degrees will require proof of completion via official transcript.
  • All military veterans who served full military service with an honorable or general discharge listed on their DD214.
