$40,000 In Innovative Scholarships Available For High School Seniors

Community Center / News / Virgin Islands / February 10, 2015

Innovative is currently accepting applications for its 2015 Albert A. Sheen Scholarships, in the amount of two $10,000 awards and for its $20,000 UVI scholarship, which will be dispersed to four students at $5,000 each.

The annual tuition-only Albert A. Sheen Scholarships are awarded to two Virgin Islands high school seniors who have already been accepted to a college or university to pursue a degree in one of the following fields: Accounting, Business Administration, Business Management, Engineering or related fields.

Applications are available at the security desks at the Innovative Business Offices in Estate Diamond on St. Croix, Tutu Park on St. Thomas, and Starfish Marketplace on St. John. Applications are also available from guidance counselors at the territory’s high schools. Students may also download applications at the Innovative website here or email an application request to [email protected].

Applications are due in the Innovative offices or postmarked by Friday, May 1.

The scholarship is named in honor of the late attorney, Albert A. Sheen, who served as the legal counsel for the Virgin Islands Telephone Corporation, which is now Innovative Telephone.

Innovative Telephone will also award $20,000 to four students- two per district- to receive a $5,000 scholarship to the University of the Virgin Islands. The scholarships will be administered by the university to be used for tuition, books and materials.

High school students who have been admitted to UVI must complete their financial aid application and submit it to the university’s financial aid office to be eligible for the scholarship.

Interested students should contact UVI at (340) 693-1160 or visit the university’s website here to download an application.

The deadline for the Innovative Telephone-UVI Scholarship is Monday, March 2.
