Virgin Islands Track and Field Team member Michelle Smith has earned a place in history after her record-breaking performance at the Virginia Showcase 2024, held on January 12 and 13 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Competing as part of the Montverde Academy 4x400m relay team, Smith contributed to a first-place finish that shattered a 20-year-old National High School record and set a new World Under-20 (U20) Indoor Record with a time of 3:37.63, according to the Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation.
The previous record of 3:38.91, held by Long Beach Poly High School in California since 2004, was surpassed by the Montverde Academy team’s stellar performance.
