Over 700 Voters Participated In Early Voting, Election System Says

News / Politics / Virgin Islands / October 16, 2018

Early voting in the territory commenced on Monday, and though the process could be stalled if a judge approves a suit filed by the St. Croix Retirees Inc. to halt further voting, the first-day numbers were deemed successful by the Election System of the Virgin Islands.

According to Supervisor of Elections Caroline Fawkes, 444 Virgin Islanders in St. Thomas voted on Monday, while another 341 participated in St. Croix, for a total of 785 early voters. Early voting in St. John starts on Oct. 20, according to the Election System.

“Your voice is your vote and your vote is your choice,” Mrs. Fawkes said.

Early voting continues today in St. Thomas and St. Croix, but the process could be halted sometime today, or allowed to be continued, based on what the judge rules.

To vote early on St. Croix, head to the Election System office in the Sunny Isle Annex across from the WAPA building. On St. Thomas, early voting takes place at the Election System office in Lockhart Gardens upstairs Banco Popular. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

For additional information, call the Election System offices at 340-773-1021 on St. Croix, or 340-774-3107 on St. Thomas.
