It is with sorrow we announce the passing of David K. Hayes.

David was born in the Charles Harwood Hospital, and was a lifelong resident of St. Croix, working with and expanding his family's businesses while pursuing his love of Caribbean history and culture. This interest led to his vocation as a licensed archaeologist, working for over 25 years on St. Croix and throughout the Caribbean. David went to school at St. Mary's and then was sent to the States for secondary school in New England. He graduated with a BA Degree from the University of California, Berkeley in Accounting and Computer Science, and years later earned his MA Degree in Industrial Archaeology from Michigan Technological University.

David was deeply involved in the Rotary Club of St. Croix Mid-Isle, giving his time and service to the people of St. Croix. He was one of the founders of the St. Croix Archaeological Society, and served on the Board of the St. Croix Landmarks Society for some years, finally as Chairman. David is survived by his many friends, and by his extended family in New Zealand. A true Crucian, David was independent, living his life on his terms. Celebration of Life to be held April 12th at Apothecary Hall (#6 Company Street Christiansted, St. Croix) from 3PM to 6PM.
