The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring a tropical wave located a few hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. This system is currently producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

NHC said Wednesday afternoon that there is a possibility for development over the next several days, with environmental conditions possibly becoming conducive for a tropical depression to form over the tropical Atlantic by the end of the week or this weekend. The system is moving westward at a speed of 15 to 20 mph.

• Formation chance through 48 hours: Low, near 10 percent.
• Formation chance through 7 days: Medium, at 40 percent.

The NHC said it will continue to monitor this system and provide updates as necessary. Residents and interests in the path of this potential system are advised to stay informed and prepare for possible tropical weather conditions.
