The Committee on Ethical Conduct (CEC) of the 36th Legislature has announced an extension in its inquiry deadline regarding serious allegations involving Senator At-Large Angel Bolques, Jr.'s office.
The investigation, initially launched following a formal complaint received by the Senate President on March 26, addresses claims of workplace harassment, financial mismanagement, unethical behavior, and fostering a hostile work environment.
In a previous statement dated April 15, Committee Chairman and Senate Vice President Kenneth Gittens confirmed the initiation of the inquiry and outlined the committee's obligation, as per legislative rules, to provide an Advisory Opinion within 30 days. The original deadline for this opinion was scheduled for April 25.
However, according to the CEC, following preliminary interviews and the initial phase of evidence gathering, committee members have determined that additional time is necessary to ensure a meticulous and impartial investigation. Consequently, the CEC reached an agreement to extend the deadline and communicated this decision to the Senate President on the original due date of April 25. The revised date for the completion and submission of the Advisory Opinion has now been set for May 30, assuming no unexpected delays.
The Committee, composed of Chairman Kenneth L. Gittens, Vice Chairman Senator Dwayne M. DeGraff, and Senators Novelle E. Francis, Jr., Carla J. Joseph, and Kurt A. Vialet, reaffirmed their dedication to conducting the inquiry with fairness, integrity, and strict adherence to legislative protocols.
