Ocean Point Terminals has reaffirmed its long-standing support for workforce development in the U.S. Virgin Islands with a $140,000 contribution to the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Process Technology Program.
The funding, presented during a check ceremony on July 18 at UVI’s Research and Technology Park on the Albert A. Sheen Campus, will directly support 11 technical courses within the university’s Associate of Applied Science in Process Technology (AAS) degree.
Ocean Point Terminals CEO Todd Dillabough presented the donation to UVI President Dr. Safiya George, describing the partnership as a strategic investment in the region’s future. “This partnership with UVI continues to be an important part of our long-term commitment to the community and to the future of the energy sector in the Virgin Islands,” Dillabough said. “We are proud to support a program that not only equips students with in-demand technical skills but also brings many of them back to Ocean Point as skilled professionals. It’s rewarding to see these students grow into valuable members of the industry.”
Now in its ninth year, Ocean Point’s support continues to provide critical academic and technical training for students pursuing careers in industrial operations, refining, and manufacturing. The AAS program blends general education with specialized instruction to prepare graduates for high-demand jobs in industries such as oil and gas, rum distillation, power generation, water and wastewater treatment, pharmaceuticals, and food and beverage processing.
Dr. George thanked Ocean Point for its consistent backing. “We are incredibly thankful to Ocean Point Terminals for their consistent and impactful support,” she said. “Their investment not only strengthens our Process Technology curriculum but also empowers our students to pursue meaningful careers that contribute to the economic vitality of the region.”
Dr. Victoria Henry, Director of the Process Technology Program, emphasized the importance of the relationship between UVI and Ocean Point. “Thanks to Ocean Point’s ongoing support and partnership, we are able to provide a program that directly aligns with the needs of the industry and sets our students up for success through internships and hands-on training,” she said. “We are sincerely grateful to Ocean Point for their continued partnership and commitment to the program.”
The funding will continue to support the delivery of the 11 specialized courses that form the backbone of the Process Technology Program. The curriculum trains students to start up, operate, shut down, analyze, and troubleshoot industrial systems, helping to bridge the gap between academic study and practical workforce readiness.
Many graduates of the program have gone on to work locally, including at Ocean Point, or have advanced their studies in fields like engineering, chemistry, and business. Others have secured positions across the globe in industries that demand the skill set developed through UVI’s program.
The Process Technology Program at UVI continues to serve as a key pathway for Virgin Islanders seeking entry into stable, well-paying industrial careers. For more information, contact [email protected].
