On Monday, Government House announced that a new tranche of tax refunds will be issued to residents.

Governor Bryan first made the announcement during a press briefing last week. “We really scrunched and scraped the budget to make sure that we could have some more money to give out in tax returns,” he said. “We can't just make laws for the people who work in the government and the retirees. We have to be able to give everybody something.”

The $15.7 million worth of tax refund checks will begin to be disbursed within the coming days, and will bring the total sum to $50 million this year alone. According to Bryan administration Communications Director Richard Motta, approximately 3700 taxpayers who filed returns on or before March 5 2024 will receive checks in this current wave.

“We're particularly proud of that as we continue to make strides in getting caught up on the income tax refund payments to Virgin Islands residents and Virgin Islands families,” Mr. Motta said.
