Soca Superstar Ricardo Dru
Soca star Ricardo Drue, known for hits such as Vagabond and Toxic, among several other chart topping songs, has died, according to several Caribbean media houses, including Antigua & Barbuda national broadcaster ABS Radio/TV.
The shocking news has stunned the Soca world, as Antigua-born Drue, at only 38, was at the pinnacle of his career and had recently proposed to fellow Soca superstar Patrice Roberts.
According to ABS, Mr. Drue was pronounced dead at the Lester Bird Hospital Tuesday afternoon after being found unresponsive.
One of Mr. Drue's latest and most prominent hits, Tornado, was produced by Virgin Islander Iaryn Williams, the respected musician and recording artist known as Swanks.
Mr. Drue was among the most ubiquitous talents in his home country, having won Soca Monarch and Road March competitions, with his most recent Road March victory being this year with "Last Man Standing".
