ST. JOHN —A 66-year-old woman visiting Trunk Bay Beach with her family tragically passed away on Friday, after experiencing difficulties while swimming, the V.I. Police Department has announced.

According to the police report, the incident occurred when the woman, identified as Carolyn Keister from Florida, began swimming and started struggling after a few minutes. Family members immediately escorted her back to shore and contacted emergency services by calling 911.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) arrived on the scene and made efforts to resuscitate Ms. Keister but were ultimately unsuccessful. She was transported to the Myrah Keating-Smith Clinic, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The VIPD’s Criminal Investigation Bureau was notified of the incident at approximately 3:47 p.m. The cause of death remains unknown and is pending an autopsy.
