ST. CROIX — It was a sight to behold in December 2016, when TGOD Entertaiment, (Teamwork, Goals, Opportunities, Determined), made up of members of the then-Stylee Band and other partners, held their first wet fete event dubbed Tsunami Drip Drop Edition in the parking lot of the Tropical Ten Pins Bowling Alley in Castle Coakley.
The spot was packed with millennials who enjoyed a variety of water activities and music from some of the U.S.V.I.’s best artists. The event, which was heavily guarded by security and the V.I.P.D., ended at 2:00 a.m. without incident, and was dubbed a success by organizers and eventgoers themselves, all looking forward to this year’s version, dubbed “Drippin”.
But a tragic and unexpected occurrence shook TGOD Entertainment in 2017. The face of Kylo and the Stylee Band, Kyle “Kylo” Sylvester, died during a plane crash on December 8, 2017. The incident reverberated across the entire territory, sending a wave of sadness through fans and supporters as well as regular citizens. For TGOD, it has been difficult to move on, but they have kept pushing forward with the belief that it’s what Mr. Sylvester and Collin Williams, another member of the TGOD group who died in the plane crash, would have wanted.
“To be honest, we don’t know how we manage to keep this going without them,” said Darnell Williams, one of the owners at TGOD. “This has been the most difficult times of our lives, but with support and love from friends and family, we kept it going. It gets real emotional sometimes, but this is what they would have wanted. They would have wanted us to keep it going so that’s what we’re doing.”
To that end, the event, which takes place on July 14 from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., is being held in memory of Mr. Sylvester and Collin Williams. It will be livestreamed on The Consortium, a new addition to the water party that the group hopes will help bring added exposure. “They saw the same vision we have moving forward with this event, so it was an honor for them to give us the opportunity,” Mr. Williams said of The Consortium. Other additions to this year’s wet fete include a bigger pool and a wider range of artists (Big Band featuring Rancho, Mic Love, BugzBugs, Shaw, Kelly Jr., Sisa, Riiqo and KJ from Hypa Aktiv Krew, and Sasso, Gusty and Hollywood from The Venomous Poizon Band. Deejays include Supa Trax International and Big Kyat Sounds).
Aside from entertainment events, TGOD has been focused on giving back to the community. In 2017, the group donated $1,000 to the anti bullying programs of the two public high schools on St. Croix. It also held what was called a “Think Big” giveaway that saw questions being posed on TGOD’s Facebook page equivalent to each grade level — elementary, junior high and high school — with the winner of the contest in each grade receiving full purchase of their uniform and school supplies. TGOD plans on hosting the event this year.
What’s next for the group? “We are going to continue promoting and trying to make a difference in our community,” Mr. Williams said. “We are going to continue giving back as much as we can.”
Aside from the online portal to purchase tickets, they are also available a traditional retail outlets such as Urban Threadz in Sunny Isle and DPMNM in Christiansted.
Members of TGOD include Mr. Williams, Shakuille Williams and Iaryn “Swanks” Williams.
Sponsors of this year’s wet fete are Troy Mason for Senate, Allison DeGazon for Senate, Caravelle Hotel and Casino and VI Lottery.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words.
I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
