ST. CROIX — Police on Thursday arrested a woman at 12:07 a.m. on charges of obtaining money under false pretense and grand larceny.

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, Shanica Prosper, 26, of Paradise Mills, was arrested after an investigation by the V.I.P.D.'s Economic Crimes Unit (ECU) revealed that on August 21 and 22, 2019, Prosper deposited checks into her bank account electronically by taking pictures of the front and back of the checks with her phone.

Then Prosper on August 29 went to Plaza Extra East and cashed the checks that she had previously deposited electronically into her account at the store, according to Mr. Derima.

The arrest warrant for Prosper was executed by ECU detectives.

Prosper made bail of $1,000 and was released pending her advisement hearing.
