ST. CROIX — A man was shot and killed Saturday morning in the Profit Hills Housing Community, also known as Harvey Project, the V.I. Police Department has announced.

According to V.I.P.D. Director of Communications Glen Dratte, at about 9:31 a.m. today, the 911 Emergency Call Center  received several reports from concerned residents of the housing community, located in Estate Profit, who stated that shots were fired in the area and that there was one man down.

Officers responded to the scene and discovered one male individual with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. The victim succumbed to injuries sustained as a result of the shooting and was pronounced dead by a medical examiner on the scene, according to the V.I.P.D.

The deceased was identified by next of kin as 21-year-old Joshua Lee.

Mr. Lee was a person of interest in one of two homicides that occurred on August 24, according to Commander Naomi Joseph, chief detective of the Criminal Investigations Bureau. During one of the incidents, 47-year-old Jose Berrios was gunned down in the Profit Hills Housing Community with a high-powered rifle.

"We were awaiting evidence coming back from processing, but somebody decided to be a vigilante today and take matters into their own hands. So now we have an additional homicide," Commander Joseph said.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau is asking anyone with information about this homicide or any other, to call 911, the CIB Tipline at 340 778 4950, 340 712 6092 or send an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers USVI here.
