Miss World USVI Crowned During Sunday Event; Winner To Participate In Miss World 2019 In London

A’Yana Phillips was crowned Miss World USVI during a pageantry event held at the Island Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday night. The event only had two contestants: Ms. Phillips, 24, who is from St. Thomas, and Malika David, 23, from St. Croix.

The event had four categories, each coming with 25 points: Beauty with a Purpose Interview, High Fashion Runway, Evening Wear, and Fitness. Judges were Brad Nugent, Angela Felix and Isabella Sylvester.

Shanisa Emmanuel, a former St. Croix Queen, was “score queen”.

Artists who performed last night included Kruziano, Cherise King and Lonzz.

Ms. Phillips will participate in the 2019 Miss World competition, the 69th edition, which is being held on December 14 at the ExCeL London in London, United Kingdom. Vanessa Ponce of Mexico will crown her successor at the end of the event.
