ST. THOMAS — A man called a friend using a stranger’s cellphone to transport him to the Schneider Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, after being shot multiple times in the lower extremities by an unknown assailant, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer in the St. Thomas-St. John District, Karl Caesar has announced.

The 911 emergency all center received notification of the shooting at 4:10 p.m. and immediately dispatched V.I.P.D. patrol officers, crime scene technicians and detectives of the Criminal Investigation Bureau to the hospital, where the victim was transported by private vehicle.

Upon arrival to the scene, the victim told police that while walking home in the area of Upper John Donkoe after visiting a friend, he heard multiple gunshots fired. The gunshots prompted the victim to hastily leave the area, however as he was running, he felt a burning sensation and realized that he was bleeding, according to an account of the incident provided by Mr. Caesar.

Mr. Caesar said further investigation revealed that the victim requested the use of a cellphone from a stranger and called a friend. The friend arrived and drove the victim from the area seeking refuge at the hospital.

This incident is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
