The National Hurricane Center in its 5:00 a.m. advisory said a new system moving westward toward the Caribbean is expected to develop into a tropical depression in the coming days.

N.H.C. said the tropical wave as of 5:00 a.m. was located several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands and it continues to produce limited and disorganized shower activity.

“Conditions are expected to become more conducive for development in a couple days, and a tropical depression could form early next week while the system moves westward across the tropical Atlantic,” the National Hurricane Center said.

N.H.C. does not expect the storm to develop in the next 48 hours, but chances climb to 40 percent in the coming five days.

Tropical Depression Nine Hovers over Bahamas

According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Depression Nine as of 5:00 a.m. was hovering over central Bahamas, and there’s an 80 percent chance it will development into a tropical storm in the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, N.H.C. is looking at a third system located a few hundred miles south-southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands. The Hurricane Center said slow development of this system is possible during the next several days while the it moves westward across the tropical Atlantic.
