ST. THOMAS — A man told police on Friday that he was shot in the leg at the Michael J. Kirwan Terrace housing community in St. Thomas while visiting a friend.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Karl Caesar, officers traveled to the housing community at roughly 6:28 p.m. Friday after being notified by the 911 emergency call center of the shooting incident.
Upon arrival, the officers learned that the victim had traveled to the Schneider Regional Medical Center by private vehicle for treatment. Officers met the victim at the medical facility, where they learned more about what had occurred.
According to Mr. Caesar, the victim told police that he drove up the hill from “The Electric World” business to visit a friend in the housing community. Upon arrival to the residence, he realized that his friend was not home. The victim said he then parked his vehicle at the residence and proceeded to walk to a second friend’s home in the neighborhood.
While walking, he said he observed an individual approaching from behind. The suspect was wearing a black mask and a black shirt, according to the victim. The victim said he then heard a loud noise and began to run. Soon after he realized that he was shot in the leg.
The victim was able to contact a friend via cell phone. Upon the friend’s arrival the victim was driven to the hospital in the victim’s private vehicle, Mr. Caesar said.
