ST. CROIX — Police on Monday afternoon arrested a man in connection with the Sunday night shooting that occurred in Estate All for the Better. According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte, Amari Krigger, age 20, seen above, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder for the killing of 51-year-old Eustace Samuel.

Mr. Samuel was shot multiple times in the upper body in his house in the presence of his teenage son, according to Mr. Dratte. Police were in the process of issuing a wanted notice when the suspect was arrested.

Incident details

Notification came in to the 911 emergency call center at about 7:54 p.m. regarding the shooting. Police and ambulance rushed to the location — the fourth left on the long stretch leading to the south shore from the vicinity of the Southgate Baptist Church on the east end of St. Croix. Neighbors said they heard gunshots but did not know where they were coming from or what was happening.

According to the police report, upon the arrival of officers to the scene, the victim was found dead inside the home. The son told police he rushed to a neighbor’s home for help after witnessing the shooting.

As of 2:24 p.m., Mr. Krigger was being processed. He is expected to be remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advisement hearing.
