Man Charged With Rape After Admitting To Having Sex With Woman

ST. CROIX — A St. Croix man on Wednesday was charged with first-degree rape and first-degree unlawful sexual contact after admitting to police that he had sex with a woman who reported that she had been sexually assaulted by the suspect, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.

According to the victim, 59-year-old John A. Poleon made unwelcome advances towards her, overpowered and then sexually assaulted her on Tuesday. Police say the victim is in her early 40s.

Mr. Poleon visited the V.I.P.D.’s  Francis Command in Frederiksted today, where he admitted to having sexual intercourse with the victim, according to Mr. Dratte.

Unable to make bail of $75,000, Mr. Poleon was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advisement hearing.
