ST. CROIX — A man was shot to death Sunday night on the Queen Mary Highway near Red Cross, which is across from Sunny Isle near the entrance heading into Castle Coakley. It was the second shooting over the weekend on St. Croix; On Friday, a shooting at Cool Out Bar in Peter’s Rest where police discovered 70 spent shell casings left two victims injured.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte, concerned residents called the 911 emergency call center at 7:47 p.m. to report that gunshots had been fired on the Queen Mary Highway close to the Red Cross.
Upon arrival to the scene, officers discovered an unresponsive Black male lying on the road with multiple gunshot wounds about his body. Police cordoned off the road leading to Castle Coakley as they investigated the shooting incident. At least five or more police vehicles were on the scene. Mr. Dratte said the victim’s vehicle, which was abandoned in the Sunny Isle parking lot across from the road, also sustained damage by gunshots.
The victim was identified by next of kin as 28-year-old Rabbhi D. Moquete.
Mr. Dratte said the incident remains under “very active” investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. The police force is asking anyone with information about the shooting to call 340-778-2211, or send an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers USVI here.
