In a release issued Tuesday, the Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority said it recognizes that there are still areas of need in the territory related to Hurricanes Irma and Maria, and is seeking input from the nonprofit community about services or programs which may be prospects for Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery funds.
“V.I.H.F.A. would like to take this opportunity to commend all nonprofits in the territory that were in the front lines of providing services, care, food, shelter and rescue immediately after the hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017,” V.I.H.F.A said. “The authority understands that nonprofit organizations provide critical services for vulnerable populations and it is dedicated to making funds available to assist NPOs that are serving the needs of those impacted by the storms.”
V.I.F.H.A said in order to assist it with identifying unmet needs in the territory, a brief involvement survey has been created to compile information regarding the capacity of the NPOs and the areas they can assist V.I.H.F.A. in the recovery efforts. The survey can be accessed at the V.I.H.F.A.’s website, www.vihfa.gov. The authority asked that participants kindly complete and submit online by July 31, 2019. Based on the responses submitted from the survey, a formal application will be developed for NPOs, V.I.H.F.A. said.
