ST. THOMAS — Police on Tuesday arrested a man in connection with the recent Coki Point shooting that left a male victim injured, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.

The V.I.P.D. said it had gathered more information that revealed the suspect was robbed of money and shot by assailants during the incident, which occurred in the wee hours of Sunday morning at about 12:25 a.m., according to police.

On Tuesday, police arrested T’Quan Vanholten, seen above, who was in the Smith Bay area, and charged him with first-degree assault, third-degree assault, second-degree robbery, using a dangerous weapon during a crime, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and aiding and abetting.

Unable to post bail of $75,000, Mr. Vanholten was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.

Sunday shooting

According to police, at approximately 12:25 a.m., officers stationed at the Mariel C. Newton Command responded to reports of an unknown individual lying on the public roadway in the area of Coki Point.

Upon officers’ arrival, they observed a black unknown male who had sustained a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen. The victim was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment, where he was in stable condition as of Sunday afternoon.

The incident is being investigated by the V.I.P.D.’s Criminal Investigation Bureau.
