Woman Charged With Assault After Beating Daughter With Machete On School Grounds

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / June 3, 2019

ST. THOMAS — A woman in St. Thomas has been charged with assault after using a belt and a machete to beat her daughter at the Ivanna Eudora Kean High School in St. Thomas, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.

According to Mr. Dratte, citing the police report, at about 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, officers with the V.I.P.D.’s Domestic Violence Unit traveled to I.E.K.H.S. in response to the assault, after a report was made by a female minor.

Upon officers’ arrival to the location, they observed that the female minor had visible bruises to her arms and legs, Mr. Dratte said. Further investigation revealed that the injuries sustained came from a belt and the flat side of a machete. The V.I.P.D. revealed to The Consortium that the suspect is the minor victim’s mother. The female minor was taken into protective custody by a social worker from the Department of Human Services.

The following day at about 1:31 p.m., Sherrolyn Wanrer, 45, was arrested and charged with third-degree assault. No bail was provided as per the territory’s domestic violence laws.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
