Staff Of Tap & Still Bar In St. Thomas Robbed Of $1,500 At Gunpoint

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / May 20, 2019

ST. THOMAS — Two employees of the Tap & Still Bar in Havensight were robbed at gunpoint early Sunday morning just as they were closing the place of business, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.

Mr. Dratte said the V.I.P.D.’s Central Dispatch received notification of the incident at about 4:43 a.m., and immediately sent patrol units along with detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau to the scene.

Upon arrival to Tap and Still, contact was made with the victims, who told police that after closing the business, they stood outside having a conversation, and had to re-enter the bar. However, while attempting to go back inside, two masked men who came from the area where a bar called “The Hut” is located — both wielding guns — forced themselves into Tap & Still with the employees.

The victims told police that once they were inside Tap & Still, the suspects forced one to open the cash register, where $1,000 was taken by the suspects. The total theft of cash was $1,500, the victims told police, as the suspects had forced one of the two employees to give $500 while they were entering the bar, according to police.

Information was provided to police indicating that the suspects ran to a vehicle that was in the street waiting for them and fled the area. No injury was reported during the incident, Mr. Dratte said.

The case is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information relative the robbery to call  340-774-2211 ext. 5608, or reach Crime Stoppers USVI with an anonymous tip here.
