V.I.P.D. Arrests Fourth Suspect In First Stop Gas Station Shooting

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / May 19, 2019

ST. THOMAS — The V.I.P.D. has arrested a fourth man it said was involved in the May 7 First Stop Gas Station shooting, Glen Dratte, the police department’s public information officer announced Sunday. The May 7 incident occurred at about 12:42 a.m.

The fourth man, identified by police as 23-year-old Kadeem Baptiste, seen above, was also at the First Stop Gas Station when the VI Superior Court marshal was shot, according police. The V.I.P.D. release says Mr. Baptiste was captured on surveillance camera communicating with another individual involved in the gun battle. Throughout the exchange of fire, Mr. Baptiste is seen leaning out of his vehicle with a firearm in his hand, according to police.

According to Mr. Dratte, after the firefight, Mr. Baptiste returned to the scene of the crime and willfully concealed another individual’s involvement in the shooting by giving the Virgin Islands Police Department false information in his statement.

On Saturday at 3:00 p.m., Mr. Baptiste was arrested and charged with misprision of a felony.

Unable to post bail of $10,000, Mr. Baptiste was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
