Police Investigating Cause Of Death After Man Found Floating In St. John Waters

ST. JOHN — The Virgin Islands Police Department is investigating the cause of death of a man found floating in the ocean near the National Park Visitors Center in Cruz Bay on Thursday morning.

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte, officers were dispatched to the area at about 6:17 a.m. Upon their arrival, a body was found floating in the water in Cruz Bay, and was brought to shore by personnel of St. John Rescue.

The victim was a White male, with Mr. Dratte stating that he had no identification on his person. “The cause of death is unknown pending a medical examiner’s finding. We are presently talking to residents, hotels and canvassing the community to find information on anyone missing,” Mr. Dratte said.

Mr. Dratte said the incident is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau, and the V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information to call 340-774-2211, or contact Crime Stoppers USVI with an anonymous tip here.
