St. Croix Dolphins Swim Team Participates In New England Charles River Aquatics

Eighteen members of the St. Croix Dolphins Swim Team traveled to Boston, Massachusetts to compete in the 2019 New England Charles River Aquatics TYR Specialty, which took place from Friday, February 15 – Sunday, February 17. This three-day competition hosted 19 different teams and over 300 athletes from all over the New England region. 

The St. Croix Dolphins Swim Team members, ranging from 10 – 17 years old, included Lidia Boguslawska (17), Amani Estrill (16), Jaidan Camacho (15), Michael Dizon-Bumann (15), Brice Richards (14), Victoria Sperber (13), Evan Dykstra (13), Eavenni Persaud (12), Gaby Evora (12), Mason Lambert (12), Morgan Garner (12), Kaeden Gleason (11), Lu Joseph (11), Lily Sperber (10), Madelyn Donnelly (10), Riley Miller (10), Daryan Maynard (10), and Kalonji Von Schilling-Royer (10). These swimmers competed in 5 – 7 events each throughout the weekend, in distances from 50 yards to 500 yards, according to the release. 

Ten-year-old Riley Miller led the way for the Dolphins, winning her 9-10 age group in 4 out of 6 events (50 & 100 yard backstrokes, 100 yard Individual Medley, and 100 yard freestyle). Lily Sperber also won an event, taking 1st place in the 100 yard breaststroke in the girls’ 9-10 age group. Also in the girls 9-10 age group, Madelyn Donnelly had a second place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke and 3rd in the 50 yard breaststroke. 

In the boys’ 9-10 age group, Daryan Maynard had 5th place finishes in the 50 and 200 yard freestyles, while Kalonji Von Schilling-Royer had 4th place finishes in the 100 yard backstroke and 50 yard butterfly. 

In the girls’ 11-12 age group, Gaby Evora had a 13th place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke and a 17th place finish in the 100 yard backstroke. Morgan Garner had an 8th place finish in the 200 yard backstroke and a 17th place finish in the 200 yard Individual Medley. Eavenni Persaud had a great swim in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing in 18th place. Lu Joseph had a strong swim in the 100 yard backstroke, finishing in 32nd place. 

11-year-old Kaeden Gleason finished the weekend with three 2nd place finishes in the boys’ 11-12 age group in the 100 & 200 yard freestyles and the 100 yard backstroke. Mason Lambert also had some strong finishes in the boys 11-12 age group, finishing 2nd in the 200 yard breaststroke and 4th in the 200 yard freestyle. 

13-year-old Victoria Sperber had some amazing swims throughout the weekend in a very deep field of 13-14 girls, finishing 3rd in the 100 yard breaststroke, 5th in the 200 yard breaststroke, and 9th in the 200 yard Individual Medley. 

In the 13-14 boys age group, Evan Dykstra finished 6th in the 500 yard freestyle and 11th in the 200 yard breaststroke. Brice Richards finished 8th in the 200 yard backstroke and 11th in the 100 yard backstroke. 

17-year-old Lidia Boguslawska took 1st place in the 400 Individual Medley in the girls’ 15 & over age category. She also finished 2nd in the 200 yard freestyle and 3rd in the 200 yard Individual Medley. 

In the boys 15 & over age category, Jaidan Camacho finished 2nd in the 400 yard Individual Medley and 50 yard freestyle. He also placed 3rd in the 100 & 200 yard freestyles and 200 yard breaststroke. Michael Dizon-Bumann finished 4th in the 100 yard freestyle & 100 yard backstroke, and 5th in the 50 & 500 yard freestyles. Amani Estrill finished 6th in the 500 yard freestyle and 8th in both the 50 yard freestyle and 200 yard breaststroke. 

On the last day of the trip, the Dolphins visited Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts and met with Kevin Tyrrell, Head Coach of the Men’s Swimming & Diving Team. Coach Kevin provided the Dolphins swimmers and parents with a private information session and a campus tour. Coach Kevin was the Head Coach of the St. Croix Dolphins from 2005-2009 and was happy to take time out of his busy schedule for the Dolphins swimmers and parents.
