Nikki Brooks Drops First Video Off New Album

Entertainment / News / Videos / Virgin Islands / February 21, 2019

On the heels of her latest EP, Nikki Brooks on Friday launched her music video for her latest Soca single “Mistaken”. According to a release, the song, which was said to have garnered much attention during the festival season on St. Croix, was chosen as the EP’s first official single and the first to have visuals shot for it.

The video depicts scenes on St. Croix during the island’s annual Parade of Troops and one of Nikki’s performances at the Festival Village. Beautiful shots of Shamari Haynes’ Simply Sophisticated Fun Troupe are also a feature of the video. Other notable highlights however, are the stunning scenes of St. Croix’s incredible beaches and its people. Nikki said she was very proud of the video, and sees it as a dedication to the Virgin Islands, their culture and their people who made her who she is. The video also appears to speak to the heart of being a person born in the Virgin Islands: pride for country with a virbantly evident, time-defying sense of culture and heritage.

According to the release, Nikki and her team decided to tap into the talents of Taya Simmons to director the video. Ms. Simmonds is said to be one of New York City’s most sought-after directors. She has directed music videos for some of hip-hop’s top artists. Accompanying Ms. Simmonds was Director of Photography (DP) Wink Harris, another one of New York City’s stellar talents in the film and television industry, according to the release.

Ms. Simmonds and her team welcomed the opportunity to shoot in the Virgin Islands and were in awe of the islands’ beauty and the warmth of the people, according to the release.

“This video will make you feel proud, patriotic and will make you fall in love with the Virgin Islands all over again. This is our home and where we love. I had to do this song and this video for my people,” she said.

‘Mistaken’ will be distributed online by Julian’s Promos and on Nikki’s website www.iamnikkibrooks.com
