William Harvey Named St. Croix Police Chief By Bryan

ST. CROIX — Governor Albert Bryan on Tuesday announced former Virgin Islands Police lieutenant and U.S. Army veteran William Harvey as police chief for the St. Croix District, according to a Government House release. 

Chief Harvey, whom Government House described as a highly-respected Virgin Islands police lieutenant, served 23 years with the V.I.P.D. as a patrol sergeant, Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Drug Task Force supervisor, and training supervisor, Government House said.  He also served as a zone commander, traffic commander and territorial training director while with the department. 

Mr. Bryan has yet to name a police chief for the St. Thomas-St. John District, and a police commissioner to lead the department.

“The community has high expectations for our Virgin Islands Police Department and our administration, and I believe the VIPD will continue improving on its operational success with Chief Harvey again in the ranks,” the governor said. “He brings the required vigor to the post, as well as a wealth of institutional knowledge. He knows the community and his military operational background and his extensive police training and drug interdiction experience makes him the right person to lead operations in St. Croix. Chief Harvey will play an integral role in our administration’s law enforcement strategy.”

Chief Harvey is a veteran of the Virgin Islands National Guard (V.I.N.G.) and U.S. Army Reserve, where he served in various capacities including as a military police officer and as a military corrections officer, Government House said.

He joined V.I.N.G. in 1980 and continued his service to the nation as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, where he most recently served as a physical security non-commissioned officer, and antiterrorism level II non-commissioned officer, according to the release. 

Chief Harvey was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and stationed at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, where he served as Protective Services Detail Non-commissioned officer in charge and personal security officer (PSO) for both the third army commander and deputy commander. He also deployed to Kosovo in support of KFOR 11, where he served as operations sergeant, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Government House said.
