ST. CROIX — A 24-year-old man shot his 30-year-old brother to death this morning in Estate Whim, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced this afternoon. The incident occurred at about 7:58 a.m. in the family’s yard.
The 911 emergency call center immediately dispatched police officers to the scene to investigate. Upon their arrival, they met the victim, identified as Allan Joseph, with a gunshot wound to his head.
Emergency medical technicians traveled to the yard to examine the victim but found no vital signs, Mr. Dratte said. The victim was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital morgue by personnel of the Medical Examiner’s Office.
According to Mr. Dratte, a preliminary investigation revealed that both brothers were outside the family’s house smoking marijuana, while other family members were inside the home. The family members inside the home heard a single shot and shortly after discovered Allan bleeding from the head, according to Mr. Dratte.
The brother who killed his kin was identified as Jamal Joseph, 24. He was disarmed and the weapon secured, according to police. Jamal was then charged with first-degree murder and was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advisement hearing.
The incident brings St. Croix’s homicide count for 2019 to 4.
