Person Of Interest In Coconut Nightclub Shooting Captured; Suspect Wanted For Murder Still On The Loose

Kahlil Wilson, wanted by the Virgin Islands Police Department as a person of interest in connection with the January 1 homicide of 34-year-old Joseph O. Brow, which occurred at the Coconut Nightclub in Mount Pleasant East, was captured by police while attempting to board a flight to the U.S. mainland at the Cyril E. King Airport, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced late Friday.

Law enforcement officials were alerted of Mr. Wilson’s attempt to leave the territory by the National Crime Information Center (N.C.I.C.) system, a computerized index of criminal justice information, including criminal record history information, fugitives, stolen properties and missing persons. The system is available to federal, state, and local law enforcement and other criminal justice agencies.

Mr. Wilson, 27, whose bail was originally set at $25,000, was charged with accessory after the fact (a person who knowingly aids someone who has committed a crime). However, after he was advised of his rights, the bail amount was increased to $50,000, Mr. Dratte said. The suspect was remanded to the Alexander Farrelly Correctional Facility pending his advisement hearing.

The man wanted for the murder of Mr. Brow, Jahkim Santiago, was still at large as of late Friday, Mr. Dratte said. The V.I.P.D. warned that anyone who harbors the suspect is committing a criminal offense and, if found guilty, could face prison time.
