Over 1,200 People Have Applied For Work With Bryan Administration; Some Cabinet Heads Will Be Announced Ahead Of Inauguration

Breaking News / Featured / News / Virgin Islands / December 31, 2018

About 1,200 individuals have submitted their resumes in search of work with the incoming Bryan administration, Richard Motta, the transition team’s press secretary told The Consortium this morning. He said because of this, members of the transition team have been painstakingly going through applications to assure that the most qualified are chosen.

“Where they are at in the process is they got over 1,200 resumes, so they are really trying to be dutiful in how they screen,” he said.

Mr. Motta said some cabinet members will be announced prior to the inauguration on January 7 via press release, with a press conference to follow immediately after inauguration to announce the full cabinet. Previously, Mr. Motta told The Consortium that a press conference would take place either today or January 2.

“We’ll name some folks before the inauguration via press release just to keep everybody abreast of what’s going on, but we’ll have a press conference right after, when we could name the full cabinet,” Mr. Motta said.

A number of cabinet heads in the current administration have resigned, leaving a leadership vacuum at those departments and agencies. The Mapp administration has seen resignations from the Department of Tourism, the Virgin Islands Police Department, the Department of Finance, the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency, the Department of Justice, and the Office of Management and Budget. Governor Mapp has announced acting leaders for each government arm that has seen leadership resignations, but some members of the community have been concerned with the lack of announcements from the incoming Bryan team relative to those who will lead critical department and agencies. By this time last four years ago, residents already knew of 13 members of the then-incoming Mapp administration.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
