Taxi Medallion Auction Starts Wednesday

The Virgin Islands Office of Veterans Affairs recently announced upcoming taxi medallion auctions to be held territory-wide. Applications can be picked up at Taxi Cab Commission offices in either the St. Thomas-St. John or St. Croix District between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Auction dates, times, and locations are as follows:

  • St. Thomas- Wednesday Dec 12th , 11: 00 am- Taxicab Commission Office, Subbase
  • St John – Thursday Dec 13th, 11: 00 am- St John Administrator’s Office
  • St Croix – Friday Dec 14th, 11:00 am – St Croix , Taxicab Commission Office, Estate Richmond

Applications must then be taken to the V.I. Office of Veterans Affairs in your district for verification of eligibility as a U.S. Virgin Islands Veteran on the island for which the bid is scheduled, according to the release. Bid forms must be deposited in the bid box no later than 10:00 a.m. the day of the auction.

Bid applicants must be present at time of auction, or must have someone assigned with a notarized letter to participate on the applicant’s behalf. According to the release, this person will only be authorized to sit-in for the applicant at the auction. Bid envelopes will be publicly opened on the date and times indicated in the presence of everyone in attendance.

The minimum bid in the St. Thomas-St. John District is $20,000. On St. Croix, the minimum bid is $8,000.
