Wholesale Gas Prices Decline In USVI; D.L.C.A. Encourages Retailers To Share Savings With Consumers

Community Center / News / Virgin Islands / November 27, 2018

The Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs on Tuesday notified the public of what the department said was a steady decline in gas prices reported by Golf Oil Corp. at Limetree Bay Terminals.

According to D.L.C.A., the decline in gas prices should “positively affect Virgin Islands residents.” To that end, D.L.C.A. said it would publish on Thursday its weekly gas survey so that gas retailers could share the cost savings with consumers.

“D.L.C.A. has ordered that all essential food and gas retailers submit prices directly,” said the department’s commissioner, Devin Carrington. “Consumers deserve to know the factors that affect prices, especially the wholesale price.”

Mr. Carrington added, “This is how we are able to determine reasonable pricing. In addition to finding what is reasonable, the department would like for consumers to see what is conscionable. Businesses that charge without a conscious will price items at a rate they see fit, rather than what is fair. Consumers should avoid these players.”

D.L.C.A. reminded the public to report issues with gas pumps, meters, and commercial scales to Consumer Affairs Director Miguel Tricoche, who’s then charged with forwarding the information to D.L.C.A.’s Weights and Measures Unit, according to the release.
