VI Consortium Experienced Downtime On Monday

News / Site News / Virgin Islands / November 13, 2018

The Virgin Islands Consortium experienced some downtime on Monday, company founder Ernice Gilbert said in a statement.

The downtime started about 3:00 p.m. on Monday, and lasted several hours, he said.

“In our efforts to offer a more swift visitor experience to the site, we moved to dedicated servers a month ago. However, a simple error took us offline as the site’s SSL certificate that came along with the upgraded servers did not update automatically,” Mr. Gilbert said.

The site’s domain was then unattached to its pointed IP, which prevented visitors from accessing content, and temporarily took it offline.

“We do apologize for any inconvenience the downtime may have caused. We understand that during a heated election cycle, the last thing Consortium users expect is the site being down for hours,” Mr. Gilbert said. “While we’re not pleased with yesterday’s site error, we’re happy it was dealt with expeditiously.”

Consortium developers are still rearranging changes that occurred during the downtime. However, users should have no problems navigating the site and consuming content.
