Tourist Visiting From Georgia Drowns While Snorkeling In Trunk Bay, St. John

ST. JOHN — A tourist drowned while snorkeling in Trunk Bay, St. John on Tuesday, the Virgin Islands Police Department announced Friday.

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte, On Tuesday at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Criminal Investigation Bureau was notified of a drowning victim that was being transported from St. John.

Mr. Dratte said a preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased and his family traveled to St. John where they went snorkeling at Trunk Bay. While snorkeling, the deceased was winded, and as he was being assisted by a family member to get back to shore, he lost consciousness, Mr. Dratte said.

Units from the investigation bureau met with a family member who identified the deceased as 56-year-old David Cohen. Mr. Cohen was visiting the U.S Virgin Islands from Georgia, according to police.
