The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority advised its customers on Thursday that bills being issued in October will represent a sixty-day service period.
“This is the final multi-month bill that the authority will issue as it normalizes its post-storm billing cycles, said WAPA Chief Financial Officer, Debra E. Gottlieb. “Beginning in November, WAPA anticipates returning to a normal billing cycle, issuing a bill approximately every 30 days for a 30-day service period.”
According to the release, the authority has spent the last several months restoring all facets of its billing systems: manual meter reading, restoration of automated metering systems which is today at approximately 85% functionality, customer payment plans and billing adjustments as required.
“This 60-day bill in October will allow the Authority to become current on its billing and be in a position to issue a 30-day bill in November, representing the customer’s usage during the month of October,” Gottlieb added.
Gottlieb said customers who are in need of a payment plan to address the 60-day bill should visit the customer service office and make such arrangements.
“I would like to caution however, that while we are affording customers a short-term payment plan on a case by case basis, all customers must be current with their payments to WAPA,” she said, adding that just as WAPA is normalizing its billing operations, customers must begin to finalize their payment plans and ensure all payments due and owing to WAPA are made by the respective due dates.
