Elderly Woman Dies After Being Struck By Safari On Veterans Drive

ST. THOMAS — An elderly woman died after being struck by a vehicle on Veterans Drive Friday afternoon, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.

The incident occurred at about 1:53 p.m., Mr. Dratte said. He said the victim, identified by next of kin as 85-year-old Sarah O. Brown, was crossing from the apron to the northern side of Veterans Drive, adjacent to the Holiday Inn Hotel, formerly Windward Passage.

Mr. Dratte said a red Ford F-150 safari was traveling westward in the inner lane when it struck Ms. Brown. She was transported via ambulance to Schneider Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

The accident is under investigation by the V.I.P.D.’s traffic division, Mr. Dratte said.
