Early Voting Ends Wednesday; 1,928 Residents Have Cast Ballots So Far

Approximately 1,928 residents territory-wide have cast their ballots during early voting, which began on July 18 and will end tomorrow.

St. Thomas is leading early voting with 1,194 ballots cast, followed by St. Croix with 693, and St. John with 41. “We are urging the public to please take advantage of this opportunity with just a few days left,” said Supervisor of Elections Caroline Fawkes in a release issued late Monday, which included the early voting numbers.

As the deadline to vote early approaches, Mrs. Fawkes said she’s expecting the numbers to surge. And she encouraged residents who intend to participate in early voting not to wait until the last hour to do so. Mrs. Fawkes also described the process of voting early as “convenient, smooth, accessible and transparent.”

Early voting us taking place at the following locations:

The St. Croix Elections Office, located in the Sunny Isle Annex (Unit 4)
The St. Thomas Elections Office, located in Lockhart Gardens (upstairs Banco Popular)
The St. John Elections Office, located at the Market Place, suite II

Earlier this month Mrs. Fawkes released an amended 2018 election calendar that pins early voting for the general election as beginning on October 15 and ending on October 29.

General election day is November 6, and peradventure there were to be a runoff election, it would take place on November 20, according to the calendar provided by Mrs. Fawkes and seen below.
