viNGN To Provide Livestream Support And Free Wi-Fi During St. John Festival 2018

Carnival Updates / Culture / Entertainment / News / Virgin Islands / June 27, 2018

ST. JOHN — The Virgin Islands Next Generation Network, Inc. (viNGN) is gearing up to once again share USVI culture with the world in support of the St. John Festival Village and parade with livestream support through partnerships with the VI Consortium and WTJX-TV, as well as free public Wi-Fi inside the Festival Village, dubbed “Sessionsville”, in honor of premier party band Cool Sessions Brass, viNGN announced Wednesday.

“This year’s theme, ‘Resilient Strong and Filled with Love and Esteem for St John Festival 2018’ truly encompasses the strength and will of the people of the territory following the two catastrophic back-to-back Category 5 storms Irma and Maria, which struck in September of 2018,” said viNGN CEO Dr. Mark McGibbon. “Our network is nearly 100% restored, but recovery continues for many throughout the Virgin Islands.”

“viNGN continues to provide 15 free Wi-Fi hotspots to the community in strategic locations as we work with our ISP partners to get residential and business Internet restored. Inside the St. John Village, there will be free Wi-Fi to help everyone connect and share the celebration,” he continued. “We also hope that those who have been displaced can find some joy in being able to log on to the Village entertainment and parade.”

To access free viNGN Wi-Fi, find the network ID #viNGN_FreeWiFi; there is no password required. Visit VI Consortium’s Facebook page for live J’ouvert morning coverage on July 4, along with the parade and final night of Village. Local public TV affiliate WTJX-Channel 12 will also have live coverage of the parade.

viNGN now hosts a total of 16 free Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the USVI: on St. John at the Loredon Boynes Sr. Dock (Cruz Bay Ferry Dock); on St. Croix at Seaborne Airlines and Williams Public Library (Christiansted), Ann E. Abramson Pier, Midre Cummings Park and Frederiksted Health Clinic (Frederiksted), Grove Place Fire Station, and Sunny Isle (in front of the Medical Center); and on St. Thomas at Blyden Marine Terminal, Emancipation Garden, Roosevelt Park, Seaborne Airlines (Charlotte Amalie), Havensight (near Virgin’s Haven), Port of Sale Mall (near Tap & Still), and Urman Victor Fredericks Marine Terminal (Red Hook Ferry Dock).

To view or download the listing, visit www.vingn.com/free-wi-fi-hot-spots.

All are invited to follow and tag viNGN as they enjoy St. John Festival on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the handle @viNextGen.
