ST. THOMAS — Kelley Hansen, 28, of California, was sentenced today before District Court Judge Curtis V. Gomez, to 2 ½ months incarceration for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, United States Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert announced today.

He was credited by the court for time he had served in custody, pending his sentencing. Judge Gomez also sentenced Hansen to 2 years of supervised released, 200 hours of community service, and a $100 special assessment.

According to the plea agreement, Hansen traveled from California to St. Thomas with the intention of distributing marijuana. Hansen arrived on St. Thomas on board a commercial airline with approximately two kilograms of marijuana. He was apprehended at the Cyril E. King Airport with the drugs.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Department of Homeland Security U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sigrid M. Tejo-Sprotte.
