Election System Releases Official Certified Candidates List For 2018 Elections; Nelson-Udhwani Nowhere To Be Found

The Election System of the Virgin Islands late Tuesday released the official list of certified candidates for the Democratic primary election set for August 4, as well as the certified candidates list for the November 6 general election.

Senator Positive Nelson, who recently acknowledged that the Election System had declared his gubernatorial bid defective, and who said he would challenge the system’s decision, was not on the list.

The St. Thomas-St. John District shows 30 candidates vying for a seat in the upcoming 33rd Legislature, with 10 candidates running as Independents, 17 as Democrats, 2 Independent Citizens Movement (I.C.M.) and 1 Republican.

In the St. Croix District, there are 28 candidates running for Senate, including 16 Democrats, 11 with no party affiliation and 2 Republicans.

There are currently 9 gubernatorial candidates, including the Democratic teams — Petrus-Sanes, Bryan-Roach and Dawson-James — two of which will be eliminated on August 4. There are 4 Independent teams seeking the territory’s highest office, including Millin Young-Bengoa, Smith-Frederick, Donastorg-Hansen and the Coffelt-Nicholson teams. Governor Kenneth Mapp and Lieutenant Governor Osbert Potter are listed as having no party affiliation, along with the Mosler-Fonseca ticket, also listed as having no party affiliation.

As already mentioned, the Nelson-Udhwani ticket did not make the cut.
