ST. CROIX — A man and a woman were shot in the parking lot of the Gertrude’s Restaurant located on Hess Road in Castle Coakley in the wee hours of Saturday, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced late Saturday.

According to Mr. Dratte, the 911 emergency call center received notification of the incident at about 3:53 a.m. on Saturday, and officers were immediately dispatched to the location.

Upon their arrival, police confirmed that the shooting occurred in the Gertrude’s Restaurant parking lot, however, the victims were transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital by private vehicle.

The male victim, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds about his body, succumbed to his injuries. He was identified by next of kin as 28-year-old Adrián Agustin.

The female victim sustained a gunshot wound to her leg and was treated at the hospital for her injury, Mr. Dratte said.

The V.I.P.D. said the incident remains under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau (C.I.B.). Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact C.I.B. at 340-778-2211, or send your anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers USVI here.
